Four Abu Tira slain; lorry stolen in South Darfur

Four members of the Central Reserve Forces (Abu Tira) were killed on Saturday, south of Kass in South Darfur. On the same day, gunmen killed a displaced man, and stole a lorry in South Darfur’s Gireida locality. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a listener reported that “government-backed militiamen” on Saturday attacked a group of “Abu Tira forces” in the area of Sangata, south of Kass. The Abu Tira troops were travelling in a Land Cruiser mounted with a Dushka machine gun and loaded with ammunition. Four of them were killed, including an officer, Lt. Seif El Din. Two other troops were injured. The militiamen seized the Land Cruiser and fled. The source added that a rescue team set out on Sunday from Nyala and Kass to pursue the offenders. Killing and robberies In Gireida, Farah Turin was shot dead by gunmen on Saturday. In another incident on the same day, a lorry driver, named Bakhit, had both his legs broken in an attack by armed robbers. One of the passengers told Radio Dabanga that the gunmen opened fire on a lorry en route from Nyala to Gireida. After robbing the passengers of their money, mobile phones and their luggage, the gunmen took the lorry and fled.
