Fatal South Darfur ambulance attack – one killer still at large

One person has died and a policeman seriously wounded after gunmen attempted to hijack an ambulance in Central Darfur on Friday night.

One person has died and a policeman seriously wounded after gunmen attempted to hijack an ambulance in Central Darfur on Friday night.

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga the four gunmen intercepted the ambulance, which belongs to El Fardous hospital, 60 kilometres south of Ed Daein.

A policeman who was travelling in the ambulance resisted the attackers. The son of a medical assistant at the hospital died, and the policeman was seriously wounded in the ensuing firefight.

The security forces have reportedly managed to arrest three of the perpetrators, while a search for the fourth is still underway.
