On Monday, the British-based Elderly Care Organisation began its work in Kalma camp for the displaced near Nyala, capital of South Darfur.

Kalma camp Secretary-General Saleh Eisa told Radio Dabanga that after the completion of a technical agreement with the Sudanese authorities, the organisation will provide non-food assistance to the elderly in the camp.

“We arranged for an office for the staff members in the camp's Block 5,” Eisa said.

“Camp leaders will select some displaced to cooperate with the organisation in preparing an inventory of the people above 50, who will receive non-food items such as beds, covers, and the required fees for ID cards.”

He added that “the displaced expressed their happiness about the presence of this organisation in the camp, because of the suffering the elderly have been facing”.

Kalma camp, hosting more than 160,000 displaced, is one the largest camps in Darfur.
