70 United Nations African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) peacekeepers from Egypt arrived in North Darfur’s capital of El Fasher on Sunday.The troops are reported to have carried large supplies of medicines to address endemic diseases and epidemics in the region.
The Egyptian soldiers were the first soldiers involved in the peacekeeping force in Darfur from August 2004, when Egypt sent 34 military observers and three officers of the leaders, within the protection forces of the African Union in Darfur


UXOs found in West Darfur
Six unexploded ordnances were discovered at Burgo village near Sortony, West Darfur, the UNAMID reported on Sunday. It in turn moved the UXOs to a safe area and marked them for a disposal operation that will be conducted shortly.


UNAMID staff released
A UNAMID Sudanese staff member working in El Fasher, North Darfur, who was detained on 3 September 2011 by the Sudanese Security Services (NISS), was released on Saturday without charges against him.
