Disarmament discussed by top Sudanese officials Justice Minister Mohammed Dossa Bishara told a news conference in Khartoum that the spread of arms in Darfur is widely impeding the administration of justice in the region. The issue was also raised at a workshop held in El Geneina yesterday on plans for the legal process of collecting weapons in West Darfur. The ministers of Interior and Defense participated.

At the workshop the Police Brigadier General Jamal Mohamed Hassan announced that this year the state recorded 65 cases of murder 12 wounded. There were also 177 armed robbery cases reported. Others felt that the number of killings, looting and injuries were double that reported by the police in its report. Some participants at the workshop asked for disarmament of the so-called Popular Defense Forces and the popular police and border guards.
