Darfur Regional Authority salary arrears still unpaid

The civil servants of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) have rejected the Authority’s decision to incorporate them into the regional ministries and localities of the Darfur States. A member of the DRA Staff Committee reported to Radio Dabanga that a decision was issued by the office of the head of the Authority, Dr Tijani Sese, stipulating that “those selected should continue their service until they are deployed in one of the Darfur States by the end of the Authority’s term”. The staff member noted that the DRA personnel’s refusal to move to the states came after the DRA failed to pay them their salaries since their appointment. The Staff Committee considers the DRA decision as “an evasion from paying their dues and arrears”. Grade-9 DRA employees formed a staff committee in December last year to handle their complaints about the non-payment of their salaries for two consecutive months. The grade-9 staff members total 200, and include agriculturalists, veterinarians, engineers, administrative officers and computer technicians. There are 40 DRA posts in each of the five Darfur states.
