Darfur policeman dies as militia attacks convoy

A policeman has reportedly died and an undisclosed number people injured in a clash and pursuit operation against pro-government militiamen in Marshang locality, just north of South Darfur capital Nyala, on Sunday. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that a pro-government militia attacked three commercial vehicles guarded by a contingent of police. The convoy was apparently en route from the Al Malam area to Marshang after shopping on Sunday evening. The witnesses report that one policeman was killed in the initial attack. “A rescue posse of locals and the police chased the perpetrators and got into clash with them in West Marshang,” they said. The engagement and pursuit between posse and perpetrators continued into Monday, and there were “casualties between the parties”. They could not specify whether there was any further loss of life.
