Darfur man shot wounded at Hamadiya; aid shortage at camps

Gunmen opened fire on Mustafa Mohamad Yusif, an IDP at Hamidiya Camp in Zalingei on Sunday. The shooting resulted in injuries to him and he was taken to the hospital to receive treatment. Witnesses said that the IDP was heading toward the camp on the path to the right of the city when two gunmen opened fire on him. The displaced called on UNAMID to intensify patrols and to extend them over a 24 hour period.

The displaced called on UNAMID to intensify patrols and to extend them over a 24 hour period.On the other hand, the displaced people in the camps around Zalingei suffer from a shortfall in aid, health services and water, according to sources. They described the IDPs situation in those camps as degraded and very bad. The displaced also cited a deterioration of the quality of services after the government expelled international aid organizations in March 2009, and did not provide corresponding alternatives to meet the shortfall left by those organizations. An IDP in Hamadiya camp described the situation on Radio Dabanga.
