“Kabkabiya town has turned into one large pond after the heavy rains,” a resident reported to radio Dabanga. “This will certainly lead to the outbreak of diseases and the spread of malaria.”

She said that many children are already suffering from diarrhoea, and appealed via Radio Dabanga to the North Darfur authorities to intervene and drain the pools “as soon as possible”.

The displaced living in the Abu Suruj, El Riyadh and El Geneina camps in West Darfur have called on the commissioners of Sirba and El Geneina localities to take the necessary measures to protect the camps from flooding.
