‘Crisis will lead to self-determination for Darfur’: Communist leader

The Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) has warned that continuation of the crisis in Darfur will lead to self-determination for the region. A party leader claimed that the USA intends to request the head of Unamid, Mohamed Ibn Shambas, to take over the Darfur file. One of the SCP leaders, Yusif Hussein, called the Darfur crisis “the largest humanitarian disaster in the twentieth century” in a press conference on Thursday. “Its continuation will lead to self-determination for the region.”The party leader claimed that the USA intends to request the head of Unamid, Mohamed Ibn Shambas, to take over the Darfur file, now that the situation is rapidly deteriorating. He accused the Sudanese government of attempting to eliminate the Darfuri armed movements using militias. He stated that the declaration of the state of emergency in all of the five states of Darfur is used to “extend the regime’s manipulative policies and ethnic favouritism, and to sabotage and marginalise the native administrations’ historic role”.   The SCP believes that the crisis in Darfur can only be resolved when the NCP regime is toppled. Nur Sadig, a member of the SCP Central Committee, affirmed that the expulsion of relief organisations from Darfur has worsened the humanitarian and environmental situation for the displaced in the region.
