Committee calls for release of detained students

A Committee of students at the University of Khartoum call for the releases of Muhammed Idriss, the President of the Darfur Association of Students and Taj Al Sir Jaafar. The two young men were detained by security authorities over a month ago. The Committee also demands the Ministry of Interior cancels its decision to close down university accomodation and expel students. They said the Ministry should apologise for this action, as well as the storming of the campus and general heavy handed approach. At a press conference in Khartoum yesterday, the Committee urged for the resignations of the Director and Deputy Director of the University and said they will give the administration four days to respond to its demands. If the demands are not met the students threatened to take out other undisclosed measures.
