South Darfur governor blames displaced for Nyala protests

Hamad Ismail Hamad the governor of South Darfur has vowed to pursue all responsible for the events that recently erupted in Nyala. In a press conference in Khartoum, Hamad said ‘if those involved are found they will bear the full responsibility for events.’ Hamad blamed ‘displaced people, refugees, street vendors and tea sellers’ for starting the protests. He also said the current food price rises are the work of ‘opportunists’. The governor also criticised international humanitarian organisations in the region for ‘operating beyond their mandates’ and violating agreements by traveling to areas where permission is not granted.
