Clashes kill six in Kutum

Six people were killed and several others injured in clashes that took place between local militias and rebel groups on Monday morning in the area of Hashaba, east of Kutum in North Darfur. A source told Radio Dabanga the clashes took place in a region where gold has recently been discovered. Rebel groups had demanded local militias disarm when traveling to the region. The militias entered with arms leading to fighting erupting. The source said three vehicles belonging to the militias were destroyed, and five vehicles were stolen. Two people killed in the fighting were named as Waleed Sadig and Muhammed Sadig Wad El Omda. Abdel Moneim Gedo Ab Bakr was also wounded in the leg. Four militia were reportedly killed and another four injured militants were taken to hospital in Kutum for treatment.
