Child dies in South Darfur fire

A child has died and 17 houses destroyed in a fire that broke out in the El Nasr district of Gireida Locality in South Darfur yesterday.

A child has died and 17 houses destroyed in a fire that broke out in the El Nasr district of Gireida Locality in South Darfur yesterday.

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that Hassan Adam (6) died in the blaze. “The damage was increased as there was no fire-fighting equipment or fire engine available”.

They said that the families from the destroyed houses are now living out in the open, and called on the authorities to intervene and come to the rescue of those affected.

Northern State

On Monday, a fire broke out at Masida, Hambokol, and Mahas areas in Sudan’s Northern State. The fire destroyed large tracts of palm trees, three houses, and shops.

This was a suspected arson attack, which activists have attributed the to the fierce resistance to the establishment of the Dal and Kajbar dams.
