Child, camp sheikh remain kidnapped in Central Darfur

Pro-government militiamen abducted a 10-year-old boy in Nierteti locality, Central Darfur, on Monday. Meanwhile, a Central Darfur camp Sheikh has been kidnapped for nearly one and a half month. The militiamen have demanded a ransom of SDG 12,000 ($2,090) for the release of Adam Bilal, a second grade basic school pupil. A witness told Radio Dabanga how the militia elements attacked Adam when he was on his way to fetch hay 1 km east of Nierteti town. They took him to an unknown location. On Wednesday, the kidnappers contacted the family of Adam and demanded their ransom. The family has reported the incident to the army garrison in Nierteti. In Azum locality, Sheikh Abdel Karim Ishag is still not released by the militia members who kidnapped him from Um Shalaya camp for Chadian refugees. On 25 May, a camp official told Radio Dabanga how the militia members in a Land Cruiser mounted with a Dushka machine gun abducted Ishag. The representative of the refugee camp explained that the kidnappers demanded a ransom payment of SDG 86,000 (nearly $15,000) for his release.
