Camp residents refuse to meet N Darfur Governor

Displaced from Kassab camp in Kutum Locality, North Darfur, refused to meet with North Darfur’s Governor, Osman Mohamed Yusuf Kibir on Saturday August 25. Kassab camp sheikh, Taher Ismail, told Radio Dabanga that they were surprised by the visit of Ibrahim Ahmed Hamid, humanitarian aid commissioner for North Darfur. Ibrahim Ahmed Hamid informed them that the Governor was on his way from Kutum to Kassab camp. The Governor wanted to meet with the displaced, but they refused to meet him. The IDPs said they were in no position to talk with the Governor. The majority of the displaced are still in the open, without shelter, food, medicine and are suffering from the unstable security situation.When the Governor heard the IDPs refused to meet him, he returned to El-Fasher straight away. On another note, sheikh Taher revealed the arrival of 15 World Food Programme (WFP) trucks carrying food to the camp. He explained that they will start distributing food rations to the displaced on Monday August 27. The sheikh added that WASTE organization managed to repair the 21 pumps and wells in the camp. On Monday they will start pumping water from the wells into the camp’s network. A meeting with humanitarian aid organizations and camp representatives is scheduled on Monday August 27 to discuss issues related to tents, tarpaulins and mosquito nets. UNHCR, WHO, OSHA and IOM are all participating in the meeting, the sheikh told Radio Dabanga.
