Camel militia beat, rob Kassab gold miners in North Darfur

A group of gold miners from Kassab camp for the displaced in North Darfur were allegedly assaulted and robbed by members of a pro-government militia on Wednesday. A displaced woman from the camp told Radio Dabanga that the miners were prospecting in the See Jenna area, about four kilometres west of Kassab camp, when they were attacked by militiamen riding camels. “After beating the displaced, they stole a gold detection device belonging to Babiker Adam Abdullah. They then fired their weapons into the air before riding off,” she said. The firing caused fear and panic among the displaced who lament the discovery of the mine near the camp which, according to the source, has become a security threat to the site due to the spread of militants around the mine.
