The Confederation of Civil Society Organisations has demanded the Sudanese Ministry of Justice restrict the power of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) of the security services and immediately halt the campaigns of arbitrary arrests of activists, students and lawyers.

The Confederation said in a statement that the security authorities are targeting activists and civil society organisations with detention, prosecution, and confiscation of personal property, including identification and travel documents.

The statement called on human rights defenders “to confront the abuses suffered by the civil society organisation’s affiliates, and coordinate among them in order to ensure that they will not be subject to any abuse of their safety, freedom and personal dignity”.
