Brawl over meal in Central Darfur ends in shooting

Two men were shot in their legs by militiamen in separate incidents in Zalingei, capital of Central Darfur, on Saturday.
Three militiamen entered the house next to the victim’s home in the El Wadi district on Saturday afternoon. They ordered the woman who lives in the house to prepare a meal for them.
“She refused. When her husband came from another room, a brawl developed, during which the gunmen began firing around them,” he reported.
“Neighbour Ali Abdallah Daoud Abdelkarim was hit in the leg, and had to be transferred to Zalingei Hospital. The attackers fled.”
The source called the security situation in the city “far from stable, as shootings still occur very regularly in the various districts”.

He pointed to another incident in Zalingei that day. “On Saturday morning, members of the Zalingei Intelligence fired a hail of bullets at army officer Bushara Adam El Nemma, the brother of the head of the Independent Students Congress, El Nazeer Adam El Nemma.
“Bushara was riding on his motorcycle, when they opened fire on him. He was hit in his leg, and his motorcycle was burned-out.”
The Central Darfur authorities imposed the emergency law one month ago, in order to curb the lawlessness in the state. The new law prohibits riding motorcycles in residential areas.
