Bassole, bin Abdullah head to Darfur this week for consultations

Djibril Bassole, joint mediator for the United Nations and the African Union, and his colleague Ahmed bin Abdullah, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, will visit Khartoum and Darfur on the 25th of this month to hold consultations with the government and representatives of civil society in Darfur. The visit is billed as a prelude to the signing a peace document in Doha on 9 December.

The visit is billed as a prelude to the signing a peace document in Doha on 9 December. Besides this, the Justice and Equality Movement will return to Doha this week. Ahmed Hussein, the movement’s spokesman, said that JEM aims to find out how the mediation has dealt with the proposals it put forward to Bassolé in their last meeting, to ‘repair’ the Doha platform. Thereafter, JEM will determine its final position on the Doha Platform, Ahmed Hussein told Radio Dabanga.
