Army troops murder camp sheikh in West Darfur

A sheikh of the Abu Suruj camp for the displaced in Sirba locality, West Darfur, was shot dead by elements of the Sudanese army on Saturday. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, the coordinator of Abu Suruj camp reported that two Sudanese army troops stormed the house of Sheikh Abdallah Mohamed Bukhari at the camp on Saturday evening. They fired at his head. He was hit by four bullets and died instantly. A group of camp residents followed the killers and saw them enter the nearby army garrison. The commander of the garrison acknowledged that two members of his force perpetrated the crime and fled from the garrison. The camp coordinator explained that Bukhari was active in campaigns against assault and abuse of girls and women inside and outside the camp by army troops and government-backed militiamen.
