Another gold miner killed in N Darfur

Witnesses informed Radio Dabanga that one gold miner was killed and two were injured in Jebel ‘Amer, Al-Serif Bani Hussein locality, North Darfur today. A relative of the fatal victim said three pro-government militia opened fire against the group of miners while trying to rob them. A source told Radio Dabanga that the injured gold miners were taken for treatment to a hospital in Sarf Omra, North Darfur. He added that the fatal victim belongs to the African Tama tribe and the perpetrators belong to the Arab Bani Hussein tribe. It was revealed to Radio Dabanga that other gold miners were able to capture two of the three perpetrators and the three Kalashnikovs they used. The third perpetrator managed to escape. An eye witness affirmed that this is the second time pro-government militia from Bani Hussein attack gold miners from the Tama tribe. He added that because of that, a relative of the dead man gathered a crowd to attack the two perpetrators that were captured. Onlookers said that Sudanese military forces coming from Kabkabiya locality and Abu Tira forces coming from Bani Hussein locality arrived in Jebel ‘Amer to prevent clashes from erupting between the two tribes. They added the Nazir from Bani Hussein joined the Abu Tira forces. A witness appealed to state authorities to intervene and stop the recurring violations and abuse from pro-government militia against them and bring the perpetrators to justice.
