Another El Salam camp resident detained in South Darfur

Security forces on Monday detained a resident of El Salam camp for the displaced in South Darfur. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya of El Salam camp in Bielel locality, near the capital Nyala, confirmed to Radio Dabanga that Mohamed Abdel Rahman El Dei Dafallah was detained by elements of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) on Monday. “Dafallah was apprehended when he was on his way to visit his brother in the Nyala hospital. He was taken to an unknown destination.” Sheikh Tabaldiya said that the reasons for the arrest are unclear. He expressed his fear that Dafallah may be tortured, and appealed to human rights organisations to intervene.  The South Darfur State authorities on 15 June embarked on a wide campaign to curb the rampant insecurity in its capital and surrounding areas. Security forces searched districts in Nyala for weapons and stolen goods. In this context, the Dereig camp for the displaced in Nyala locality was raided and searched by a military force last Thursday. Two days before this raid, on 5 August, a large military force searched El Salam camp, assaulted and robbed the displaced, and detained more than 75 people. Most of them were released a few days later. The others were deported to a Khartoum prison.
