Abducted Unamid employee released in Central Darfur

The Unamid civil affairs officer, abducted in Nierteti five days ago, was released this afternoon.
In an information note today, the UN-AU peacekeeping mission in Darfur announced that staff member Esam Adam Abdeljabar was freed by his kidnappers at around2 pm today, at the same location from where he was abducted.
Two gunmen on a motorcycle kidnapped Abdeljabar last Wednesday near the market of Nierteti, some four kilometres from the Unamid team site.
On his release, he was immediately taken into the team site’s clinic for a thorough medical examination. “He appears to be unharmed and in good health,” Unamid reported.
Acting head of Unamid, AbiodunBashua, expressed his relief at the release of Abdeljabar and commended the “efforts of all those who facilitated the release”.
