8 displaced women raped in South Darfur, eastern Chad camps

On Wednesday four women were raped by armed men in Dereig camp in South Darfur. One of the victims told Radio Dabanga that the women went out of the camp to collect firewood and sat near a mountain for a quick rest.The gunmen on camels appeared, attacked the women and raped them. She went to the police to report the incident but was insulted and told to go to the UN/AU Mission in Darfur. The woman told the police that UNAMID but she would not keep quiet. She told them she would take her story to the world via Radio Dabanga. Four women raped in Chad Four Darfuri women in an eastern Chad refugee camp were also raped by gunmen traveling on camels and horses on Wednesday. A witness told Radio Dabanga that the four women from Arkasoni camp were raped by 14 armed men. They also viciously beat Abdul Gadir Adam who witnessed the attack. The witness said the women were extremely traumatised and are now being treated at the camp using traditional remedies. He appealed to the UN and other organisations to try to protect women from these attacks.
