3,500 suffering from water, food shortages in Dembri camp

Around 3,500 refugees in Dembri camp in the Central African Republic (CAR), are suffering from a lack of food and water shortages, after relief supplies were stopped in February. A camp leader told Radio Dabanga that the humanitarian situation has led to an increase in cases of malnutrition and hunger related diseases. He said that 50 refugees have been hospitalised as a result of hunger and a lack of clean water. The leader appealed to ‘the international community and humanitarian organisations to act to save these forgotten Sudanese refugees in the CAR and provide them with food supplies. He added that the security situation is dangerous as the camp is near to rebel group areas and said women that go to the market are often looted and threatened.
