Sudan to aid ‘victims of insurgency’ in eastern North Darfur

The federal Minister of Welfare and Social Security has announced the formation of an “emergency chamber” to support those affected by the attacks on the eastern parts of North Darfur. “The attacks by the insurgents on Alliet, El Taweisha, and Kalamindo localities have displaced 350,000 civilians,” the Minister of Welfare and Social Security, Mashair El Dawalab, stated at a press conference in Khartoum on Tuesday. The Minister said that the emergency chamber will assess all the immediate and future needs of basic services in the affected areas. It will also take care of the continuation of aid in the form of food, clothing, medicines, and the provision of health care to the newly displaced. School exams The North Kordofan Ministry of Education and Guidance will provide the newly displaced school students who recently fled from North Darfur, with the opportunity to sit for the approaching basic school exams. A considerable number of displaced students from South Kordofan will be able to do the exams in North Kordofan too. ‘No new camps’ The Governor of North Darfur State, Osman Kibir met on Tuesday with Dr Aisha Abdallah, the Commissioner for Political Affairs of the AU Commission. He told the press after the meeting that his government has made “unremitting efforts”, together with Unamid and other organisations, to address the humanitarian situation in the state, “so that new camps might not be established in North Darfur”.
