Darfuri women, sheikh injured in rape attempts

Four people were wounded in two separate rape attempts in Kass locality, South Darfur, on Monday.
“The first incident occurred in the area of Kalu, west of Kass, when a group of militiamen attempted to rape three women,” the coordinator of the Kass camps told Radio Dabanga.
“The women were all injured when they resisted and fought back. Maryam Daoud Hassan was wounded in the head and face, while Hawa Mohamed Abakar suffered a broken left hand. Aisha Adam sustained light injuries,” he said.

Hassan and Abakar were taken to the Nyala Teaching Hospital while Adam was transferred to Kass Hospital.

The coordinator said in the second incident “three militiamen riding camels tried to rape a young woman on her farm. Sheikh Abakar Mohamed Abdelwali Hussein intervened. The woman managed to escape but the sheikh was severely beaten with rifle butts and batons.”

The sheikh was initially taken Kass Hospital and to Nyala Teaching Hospital for treatment.
