Youth in West Kordofan protest motorcycle ban

A youth group in El Meram locality in West Kordofan has protested against the decision of the state governor, to ban the movement of motorcycles and collect them inside El Meram. For two consecutive days, chaos has reigned and the protests have crippled trades and market movements in the town, witnesses reported. The youths threatened not to hand over their motorcycles, even if the government used violence. They see the motorcycles as their only means of transportation, as well as a source of livelihood for the majority of the youths. The commissioner of El Meram locality, Abul Gasim El Hiraika, downplayed the protests. He noted that the governor’s decision includes unlicensed motorcycles. “They have become tools for crimes in West Kordofan,” he pointed out.
