WFP to begin re-registration in Zalingei camps

Camp coordinator accuses Sudanese government of pressurising WFP

Camp coordinator accuses Sudanese government of pressurising WFPThe World Food Program (WFP) will begin a re-registration of refugees in Zalingei camps in the coming week, a coordinator of the camps told Radio Dabanga on Friday.

The re-registration, which will take place between August 16 and 25, will renew the cards of  Hamidiya and Hassa Hissa camp residents. During the revision, newborns will be registered and accounts of deceased will be deleted from the files

The operation will be carried out in the centers of Alamae during official working hours, from 8 am to 4.30 pm.

One of the Zalingei camp coordinators, who does not wish to be named due to fear of retribution from Sudanese authorities, told Radio Dabanga that the Sudanese governernment won’t grant military protection to the WFP unless it agrees to fully cooperate with the authorities.

The coordinator sees it as a clear attempt to intimidate the organization, which won’t be able to perform its duties in an insecure environment.

“I will not bow down to the pressure exerted by the Sudanese government. A lack of support from the authorities will make the WFP unable to reach the needy refugees in camps,” he said.
