West Kordofan security measures ‘begin to bear fruit’

The emergency measures imposed in West Kordofan to restore security and stability, are beginning to show results, according to the state governor.
Governor Abulgasem El Amin told reporters in the state capital of El Fula on Wednesday that a number of people have been arrested for illegal possession of weapons and ammunition this month. They will be tried under the state’s new emergency law.
The new measures, designed to curb the rampant security problems, include a ban on wearing military uniforms, carrying weapons by civilians, and the use of unregistered motorcycles.
Measures are also being taken to prevent “friction between farmers and herders”, he said.
