The Governor of West Darfur has requested the gunmen who stole arms and ammunition from the police station in Abu Suruj last Monday evening, to return these immediately.

The Governor of West Darfur has requested the gunmen who stole arms and ammunition from the police station in Abu Suruj last Monday evening, to return these immediately.

A group of armed herders attacked the station against the backdrop of a military intervention during a preceding dispute between farmers and herders in Sirba locality. They reportedly freed several of their comrades who were detained, and their confiscated livestock.

Governor Fadlul Mola El Haja said that “some leaders are covering up for crimes and criminals”, without providing further information during a speech in El Geneina.

He said that the life of livestock seem more important than human beings in the state. “Customary laws and traditions that use 'blood money' [financial compensation] to solve murder cases among the tribes, cause the loss of the rights of human beings.”

The Governor swore that he would never allow any attack against the regular forces in West Darfur.
