Water, electricity outages in North Kordofan’s Sheikan

The residents of Sheikan in North Kordofan complain about repeated water shortages and power cuts.
“For four consecutive days this week, most neighbourhoods of Sheikan did not have water,” a listener told Radio Dabanga.
“The people are forced to buy water from donkey carts. “The price of a barrel of water has risen to SDG14 ($2.30).”
He said that power cuts are occurring frequently throughout the day. “We can live with power cuts if only the authorities could arrange the provision of electricity in an organised way. Years ago, we were informed before about an outage,” he explained.
“Now the cuts happen unexpectedly, with the result that craftsmen like me who rely on electricity for their tools and instruments, are seriously affected.”
