Wad Madani students demonstrate against violence in Darfur and student deaths

Students of the El Gezira University in Wad Madani went to the streets in a massive demonstration on Thursday, denouncing the ongoing assaults in Darfur. They called for the persecution of the perpetrators of “the crimes in Darfur”, the murderers of the University of Khartoum student killed on Tuesday, and of the four Darfuri students who were found dead in December last year. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, one of the demonstrating students in Wad Madani, the capital of El Gezira state, said that they decided to march from the university to the State Parliament to deliver a memorandum. The students condemn the killings in Darfur, demand an investigation into the murder of Ali Abakar Musa, a Darfuri student at the University of Khartoum who died of bullet wounds on Tuesday, and bring the Security Forces troops who killed the four Darfuri students last December to justice. The student, who spoke to Radio Dabanga from the demonstration, said that they were halted by the police in El Dibagha district, at a distance of 2km from the university. Five students were allowed to proceed and hand the memorandum to the Parliament.
