Villagers assaulted in Central Darfur

Villagers in Kass locality, Central Darfur, sustained various injuries on Saturday as a result of being beaten and whipped by militiamen. A listener and eyewitness reported to Radio Dabanga that “government-backed militiamen” on camels and horses on Saturday attacked about ten people of Martouna village, west of Kass town, while they were collecting firewood and straw north of the village. The “Janjaweed” beat them with their rifle butts and whips. The wounded were treated with traditional means, such as salt, oil, acacia pods, and fenugreek, the witness described. He demanded from the authorities to put an end to the assaults and abuses by the militiamen, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
