US Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello strongly criticised the escalating violence in Sudan, underscoring the heavy toll on civilians in a statement posted yesterday on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Perriello emphasised that Sudanese civilians “continue to bear the brunt of this heinous war” and are suffering greatly due to attacks by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in and around civilian areas.

Citing recent SAF bombing raids in El Fasher and RSF attacks in El Gezira, the US envoy states these recent campaigns have “resulted in civilian deaths, injuries, and displacement”.

“The parties continue to obstruct humanitarian assistance and the free movement of civilians, worsening the humanitarian and refugee crisis in Sudan,” Perriello warned.

Perriello’s statement underlines the vital need for international intervention to address the increasing violence and safeguard vulnerable civilians in Sudan.
