US delegation, WFP visit Sudan refugee camps

A senior US delegation composed of donors and of members of the World Food Programme (WFP) visited on Sunday two Sudanese refugee camps in eastern Chad, Mile and Kounongou. The aim of their visit was to assess the performance of organizations working on the field and the conditions of the refugees, an activist from camp Kounongou told Radio Dabanga. The delegation toured health, youth and social centers in addition to a hospital at camp Kounongou, the activist said. Members of the delegation dicussed with elders and leaders of both camps about “difficulties refugees face regarding health, education and security aspects.” The leader of camp Kounongou, Issa Tijani, urged the delegation to “continue supporting refugees with food rations without interruption until peace is achieved in Sudan”. According to the activist, the committee responded to some of the demands by Tijani and was “more reserved” to others.
