Unrest at Hamadiya camp continues with 9 separate incidents of looting reported

The government paramilitary Border Guards took nine hostages after raiding the IDP camp on Tuesday. The group threatened to kill the hostages and attack the camp for a second time if a ransom of 900 million Sudanese pounds was not paid within 24 hours. The coordinator of the Zalingei camps told Radio Dabanga “after the kidnapping of Mohamed Isa there are now a total of ten hostages”.

The camp coordinator told Radio Dabanga “Abu Manga (the leader of the Border Guards) and his troops are still surrounding the camp. They attack all IDPs who leave the camp. The displaced people are very afraid”.

The paramilitary group stole 100 Sudanese Pounds from Adam Musa Adam when he was returning from Al Khamis market to the camp.
Five sheep were taken from Abdallah Suleiman Haroun after he had bought them at Al Khamis market.
The Border Guards stole a land cruiser, and the goods inside the car, belonging to Abdel Latif Suleiman Mohamed Adam.
Jelal Al Din Khalil Hassan and Abdul Gasim Khamis Hassan were robbed of 200 Sudanese Pounds, a mobile and a knife as they approached the eastern gate of the camp on a rickshaw.
A donkey and his cart were stolen from Mohamed Suleiman Isa Sharaf who was traveling from Wadi Al Zuhur towards the camp.
Fadun Mohamed Nour was heading from to Zalingei when he was robbed of 1200 Sudanese Pounds and his two mobiles.

After the coordinator of the camps informed UNAMID a representative came and interviewed the victims. He appealed to the government of Central Darfur and UNAMID to pressure the Border Guards for the release of all ten hostages.
