Unknown group attacks UNMIS office in Sudan capital

An unidentified armed group attacked one of the office buildings of the former UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) in the Sudanese capital on Monday morning. Sources from Khartoum confirmed to Radio Dabanga the attack occurred at 3:30am. They said the perpetrators “possibly belong to an Islamist extremist group”.The UNMIS building is located at the Al-Menshiya neighborhood in Khartoum.  A Sudanese guard of the office block, Mahmed Hamid Awad, was injured during the assault.Sources did not confirm the identity of the assailants, but said they fled the scene.UNMIS ended its six-year mandate the same day South Sudan declared its independence, on 9 July 2011.The motive of the attack remains unclear.

UNMIS ended its six-year mandate the same day South Sudan declared its independence, on 9 July 2011.

The motive of the attack remains unclear.
