Travellers in Darfur are surprised by a sudden increase in air ticket prices.

Several passengers Radio Dabanga spoke to complained about the increase which was recently announced by the civil aviation authorities. No reasons were given for the price hike.

A ticket from Khartoum to El Geneina in West Darfur will rise from SDG1,050 ($171) to 1,190 ($194). Flying from Nyala to El Fasher now costs SDG970 ($158) instead of SDG850 ($139). Prices of tickets to El Obeid, Ed Damazin, and Kassala have increased, too.

In comparison, the average price for a one-way flight from Khartoum to Dubai ranges around SDG1,600 ($261) with Sudan Airways, and from Khartoum to Addis Ababa SDG2,165 ($353).
