UN, US meeting in North Darfur on immigration

A meeting between ambassadors of the UN Security Council, the US Special Envoy to the Sudans, and the government of North Darfur has addressed the issue of displacement, and illegal immigration to Europe.

A meeting between ambassadors of the UN Security Council, the US Special Envoy to the Sudans, and the government of North Darfur has addressed the issue of displacement, and illegal immigration to Europe.

The ambassadors of the permanent state members of the Security Council and the Donald Booth, the US Special Envoy to Sudan and South Sudan, met with the state government on Sunday.

The British ambassador, Michael Aaron, said in remarks to reporters that they look forward to cooperating with the government of North Darfur to resolve the illegal immigration.

North Darfur Governor Abdelwahid Yousif said that his government acts to combat human trafficking across the Chadian-Libyan border.

Booth, who is on a visit in Sudan's western region, said that the meeting came in response to an invitation from the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (Unamid), so as to understand situation on the ground in Darfur.

After his meeting with the South Darfur Governor on Saturday, the envoy stated that an end must be put to the suffering of the Sudanese people, and said that his country has urged the AU team, mediating the peace talks between the Sudanese government and the armed movements, to join the National Dialogue to solve the various crises in the country.
