UN chopper crashes in Darfur – only three minor injuries

A Unamid helicopter crashed at the landing strip in Zalingei, capital of Central Darfur on Sunday mornbing. All 19 passengers and four crew members survived. Only three minor injuries were reported.The aircraft developed a technical fault while on a flight from Zalingei to Nierteti in Central Darfur soon after take-off. The pilot turned back to the Zalingei helipad. During the emergency landing the aircraft crashed and was badly damaged.All 19 passengers and four crew were immediately and safely evacuated from the helicopter, Unamid stated. Only three passengers suffered minor injuries and were swiftly taken to Unamid’s hospital in Zalingei for treatment. An investigation is underway to find out the technical cause of the crash.
