The Umma Party of Sudan condemned the massacre carried out in North Darfur on 2 September, in which more than 60 people were killed by ‘janjaweed’, according to refugees in the area. The party and other opposition forces also condemned what happened the night of 3 September at Hamidiya Camp, when gunmen killed nine people in a night raid. The party demanded in a statement to immediately intervene to protect civilians and not to forcibly relocate the displaced persons but instead provide them with security and shelter at their villages of origin. The party appealed to the government as well as  the armed movements to sit down to negotiate an end to the suffering of the inhabitants of the region
