Two wounded as bandits target Zalingei-Nyala highway in Darfur

Two people have been wounded as gunmen, allegedly members of pro-government militias, accosted five vehicles en route to the main road link between Zalingei and Nyala, capitals of Central and North Darfur. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that the gunmen, operating in the Nyama area, targeted vehicles travelling from west Jebel Marra. “Two busses, originally from Zalingei, another bus from Nertiti, and two commercial vehicles were attacked by militiamen driving two Land Cruisers and five motorcycles,” they said. Two passengers, one named Adan Hassan, were reportedly wounded in the attack, during which the bandits allegedly stole 50 mobile phones and SDG200,000 ($45,500) from the bus passengers.
