Two policemen killed by Border Guards in North Darfur capital

Two policemen were killed in violent clashes that broke out with Border Guards in El Fasher, North Darfur, on Thursday. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that the clashes broke out against the backdrop of theft committed by members of the Border Guards. “The police force pursued the suspects even in the market area, where border guards who were stationed in there fired at the policemen”, a source described. Policeman Ayman Musa was killed on the spot, and policeman Ahmed Ibrahim died from his injuries on Friday. Seven policemen were injured during the attack. Listeners told Radio Dabanga that citizens living in the eastern neighbourhoods in El Fasher were panicking on Thursday in fear of the violent clashes. They have demanded from the authorities to expel the border guards stationed east of El Fasher, as a result of their ongoing violations against citizens, as well as their looting, robbery and drug trafficking. In a report on Thursday, Nasreldin Bagal, the Commissioner of El Fasher locality, had said that “a group of outlaws” carried out the attack, in which one man “belonging to a police convoy” was killed. “The security services are still on the hunt for the perpetrators, after chasing and forcing them out of El Fasher locality”, he told the Sudanese Media Centre on Thursday.
