Two peacekeepers, schoolboy injured in North Darfur attack

Two peacekeepers and a schoolboy were wounded in a militia attack on a Unamid force in Kutum, North Darfur, today. “At about 12 am, a group of government-backed militiamen in four Land Cruisers attacked a Unamid force in Kutum. They wanted to steal the tanker the Unamid force was using to fetch water from Jineinat Habri in the centre of Kutum town,” multiple sources told Radio Dabanga. “Two Unamid staff members, one of them a soldier and the other the driver of the tanker, were seriously injured. They were transferred by a helicopter to El Fasher,” a witness reported. “The attackers seized one of the Unamid vehicles, left with it, but it broke down near a basic school for boys. The militiamen then fled, firing heavily into the air. Stray bullets hit an 11 year-old boy in his hand and leg. He was immediately transferred to Kutum hospital,” another source said. He added that the attack caused great fear and panic among the residents of Kutum.
