Two girls were raped and their male companion shot by a pair of militiamen in the Nabagaya valley of Kabkabiya locality in North Darfur on Saturday.

Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a relative of the victims reported that the two girls, aged 17 and 14, left the village of Jilidma on Saturday afternoon, together with Ahmed Eisa, to visit Kabkabiya town.

When they passed Nabagaya valley, about 11 kilometres south-west of Kabkabiya, the two militiamen intercepted them. They shot Eisa, before they raped the girls.

Eisa was taken to Kabkabiya, while the two girls were taken to the Unamid clinic nearby on Sunday morning, the relative said.

She added that the assault was reported to the Unamid Police and Human Rights Department in Kabkabiya, and a complaint was lodged as well with the police of Kabkabiya.
