Two children die in North Darfur UXO blast

Two boys were killed in Tawila locality in North Darfur on Sunday when a remnant of war detonated.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a resident of Tamra village, 15 kilometres south of Fanga in Tawila locality, reported that an item of unexploded ordnance (UXO)* killed Ayman Ibrahim (12) and Babikir Juma Hamed (10). “Abdelhameed Yousef Adam (14) sustained light injuries.”
He said that the three boys found the UXO not far from the village a foreign body. “They began playing with it until it detonated.”

The villager noted that “The number of UXOs found have significantly increased since the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces entered the area last year”.

He called on the authorities to cleanse the area of war remnants.
