Traffic blocked on Kutum-Kabkabiya road, North Darfur

The traffic between the North Darfur capital of El Fasher, Kutum, and Kabkabiya came to a halt last week, after militiamen set up roadblocks on the main roads.
“More than 200 lorries loaded with goods from Omdurman and heading towards Kabkabiya and El Tina got stuck near Kutum three days ago,” a resident of Kutum reported.
He said that splinter groups of a government militia are blocking the main road between Kutum and Kabkabiya. “They threaten to plunder the vehicles if they do not pay passage fees of SDG5,000 ($815) and two barrels of fuel,” he said.
