Four people died and five others were injured in a traffic accident in South Darfur on Sunday.

The traffic accident happened on the road between Nyala, the capital of the state and Ed El Fursan, 80 km west of the capital. A relative of the victims, Mohamed Ibrahim Omar, reported to Radio Dabanga that four of his family members died instantly. Five others were injured.

The injured people have been taken to the academic hospital in Nyala. According to the Nyala traffic police, the cause of the accident was the speeding of one of the vehicles while another vehicle tried to pass it on the same road.

It is noteworthy that many traffic accidents in Darfur are caused by the poor roads in the region. Several years ago, bus drivers contacted by Radio Dabanga commented that most of the highways in Sudan are badly maintained, and need to be widened.
